Is it TOO LATE to get a Summer Job?

I really wanted to get a Summer Job at a book store, live theatre, or the movie theater. I'm just not sure if there will be a lot of openings. I'm not even sure how to go about applying for a job. Should I just go up to an employee and ask for an application or should I just apply online? I also heard that I would need a work permit to work at the movie theater. How can I get that and what should I do to have it.

thanks

Yes. Summer is practically over now.

@Futurexecutive. Shoot yourself.

No, it’s not too late.

You got 2 months left

Well, I know summer isn’t over yet. I just asked because I was worried with the mass of other teens potentially wanting the same job I do and with the economy and all, that I might be put on some waiting list…

You don’t have much work experience, do you? Lol, you don’t get waitlisted for a job AppleBeam. If you’re gonna be picky about where you want to work, then yes, it’s probably too late. However, if you’re just trying to make some money and gain experience it’s definitely not too late! I have aa friend who thought the same thing and just got a job last week right before graduation as a lifeguard. He’s pretty excited about it! Look around. People always want help with something. Good luck!

Apple, go there and talk to the manager. They won’t even look at your application unless they have a need, so online is like the black hole. Whereas they’ll know you’re interested if you talk to someone there. They might just give you a standard application then too, but try to do more than just fill out an application. Explain why you’d be a good hire and ask if there’s an opening, and when you’d hear from them.

^^Well, Yeah, you’re right. I’m kind of new to this. The only experience I’ve ever had was volunteering last summer at a local hospital and nursing home. :)

^OK, Thanks for the advice.

People are always looking for help either for pay or as a volunteer. You can check some of your local summer day camps (maybe one you attended as a child), put your name on a community list serve and offer to help families with babysitting, pet sitting, watering gardens, children’s birthday parties, serving and cleanup at an adult party.
You can also offer to help a child with a sport or learning some academic subjects. You can offer to do some manual labor for a senior citizen (moving, gardening). You can walk dogs. You can volunteer in an area that you are considering for a career or arrange to shadow a professional (physician, dentist, physical therapist, nurse). Whatever you do, do your best. Put out the max effort and always be on time. Then you can use those contacts for references for your next job.

Actually, no. I actually just got a job today. Just stop into as many stores as you can and ask for an application. Then ask if a hiring manager’s around and introduce yourself. Then (this is the important part), either go back to the store or phone the manager every week or so until they realize you’re genuinely interested in a job. With this economic climate, they’re not going to hire just any teenager who hands in an application.

Appreciation for sarcasm, none? ;)

Hopefully cause I am applying everwhere I can

@limabeans:
You gave some pretty good advice, and I know this isn’t my thread, but like ZombieDante I’ve applied to a few places, and I haven’t gotten anything. I’ve even had friends who work at stores refer me; I’ve called places, and still nothing. And when I get responses like “Well, I’ll check applications this week, and if I’m interested, I’ll give you a call.” every time I call, it’s a little annoying. I know I should probably be more open and patient, but it sounds like they’re not even interested in hiring me. I don’t know what it is either, because I honestly think my personality is fine.
Is it really necessary to constantly call every week for a job? It seems a little desperate, but I meann if that’s what I gotta dooo, thennn that’s what I’ll doooo.

^Good Luck :)

I applied to Panera Bread about 2 days ago (online though). My dad knows the manager there and kind of referred me to him. I haven’t recieved a call back though… But the manager told him to let him know when I have sent the application so I guess I’ll get one soon (hopefully). When can I expect a call back? Should I call my self?
