Is it too late to join Speech my junior year?

I am currently a sophmore in high school. This year I joined the debate team(1st year it was offered at our school) but passed up on the Speech team so that I could play tennis over the winter. I also play varsity tennis for my school in the spring. I enjoy all these activities but fell like I am missing out by not being on Speech.

My questions are, should I join the Speech team? And, it is too late to join because it would be my junior year? I don;t want colleges to think I joined it just to boost my resume.

If you’re actually doing it for yourself, don’t worry about what colleges will think. And I would have though that junior year isn’t too late to start, especially if you’re already doing debate

Just as a different perspective, my D wrote her main college essay about a new EC activity she had just discovered summer before Sr. Year and was completely captivated by. She has had really good response to it (acceptances). I would say if it’s a legitimate passion - go for it. To do otherwise would be the insincere thing. Good luck.

I just joined this year, my junior year. I’m sure it won’t affect you negatively, especially if you can qualify to got to State or even Nationals.
