I have been deferred ED...and I was way too busy to think about Columbia since I was applying to 10 different schools..
is it too late to appeal my case to Columbia??
What do I write on my letter?help, plz...thankS!

Well, you cannot really "appeal" your deferral. Basically your application will be reconsidered along with the rest of the Regular Decision applicants. It's not too late to write them a letter stating how Columbia is still your first choice school, your extreme disappointment at deferral, and your hopes of being accepted in April. You could add any new information that is relevant, and is not on your original application, for example: I was selected for Presidential Scholar, or won first place at State Debate Finals (in March), or was selected "most involved in Community" etc.

i think if you have a choice between writing a letter sucking up to columbia and just sending good midyears with no letter go for the second option .. unless you really have something new to say, they ll see right through your letter and it might work against you..

I don't think it will hurt to reaffirm your interest in Columbia; if you can do so in the context of pointing out some significant positive news, so much the better. Good luck!

flood the admission office with ur letters.
even if it is March 31th. that's what Express mail is for.
^^

lol! :p
i need to send out my letter too. i dont think its too late since we wont hear for another 2 months...oh the torture.
should i focus more on the fact that columbia is my number one choice or on my accomplishments since november? also..i got a B on my midyear..which is my only one since freshman year. i know it sounds stupid that im worried but since im only taking 5 classes..it kind of shows that i am slacking off. they made it seem like the midyear report was the main thing to determine which deferred students get in..so mine wont help me.
sigh..i wish we could fast foward to may!!!

i truly think there is no point cause if u say i love columbia they see right through it especially if everybody is sending in letters.. i think u should send only of you have done something amazing since nov...

what about an additional essay?? and additional recommendation???

"It's never too late; that's what death is for." that's a line from a movie.

Send letters, your own and another recommendation letter. Maybe an alumni rec if you can come up with one. They might not even read them. But they will probably see them. So if they deferred 100 people and 80 of them send additional letters, that shows a continued interest I think that the other 20 don't show and they might assume they've moved on - which they might have. I know you are probably burnt out so it really depends on how important it is to you or if you want to just let the chips fall where they will.

I was put on a waiting list several years ago when I returned to school as an older adult. I wrote a letter saying it was my first choice school, yada yada and saying some specific things about why I loved it, their program, the area etc. They eventually did accept me off the waiting list much to my surprise but I had already bought a house near my second choice school so that was the end of that.
