Is it too late to send them letters to get off the WL?

I was waitlisted from Washu like many others, and was planning on sending them a letter detailing why I still really would like to be admitted. Unfortunately, because of extenuating circumstances, I was only able to send it today--but now I'm really worried that it's too late to send Washu a letter. Do you think this would reflect poorly on me and indicate that I didn't REALLY want to go, since my letter is so delayed, especially in comparison to when decisions came out?

Please help me with this, I'm having a lot of trouble deciding what to do. I appreciate any opinions, thank you all so much!

I don’t think it’s too late. I haven’t sent my waitlist letter into another institution because I am waiting for two more updates to send that should hopefully arrive the end of this week or next week. Don’t mention that you apologize that it’s late though.

You have nothing to loose by sending it. I am not sure what are you having trouble with.

Thanks so much for replying, I think you guys are right. I just wasn’t sure if it was even worth it to send one now that it’s 10 days until decisions must be made.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if it’s better to send them by snail mail or email? I thought snail mail would be more personal but I guess I should expedite the process and go with email.

Waitlist decisions are not made by May 1st. They don’t usually start until then. You must enroll and make a deposit in another institution before then so you are secure. Send it by snail mail, it’s much more professional.

Oh, sorry for not being clear–I meant there are 11 more days before they will receive everyone else’s decisions, enabling them to begin working on waitlist decisions.

Well Wash U’s waitlist practices are kind of unknown, so I can’t comment on how they waitlist. Getting it in before May 1st is important, but other than that, I don’t think it matters too much. Make it clear Wash U is your first choice and you will go if accepted.

Absolutely not too late to send in additional data. Although it may be a bit late for the first round of WL, which should be decided shortly.
