Is it true I WON'T get rescinded for a 2.5-2.8 GPA at Vandy, Already committed and No Ds or Fs

I read a post by the Vanderbilt admissions blog that said there is no “line”- aka strict gpa cutoff- for rescinding. I have 2 “Cs”, 3 “Bs”, and 1 “A” (2.8) and the worst case scenario is one of the “Bs” turning into a “C” (2.5) but I think i’ll end with the 2.8 since final exams are pretty much over (taking all APs but one class, so after AP theres just small, fun projects-- not much points to make up my grades).

FYI I had 4 As and 2 Bs last semester as the first semester of senior year (3.7) and straight As (4.0) junior year. I emailed the admissions officer with this information and she initially gave an ambiguous answer saying “we are not sure whether we would or not” but she said examples of rescinds were for “genuinely weak senior grades such as Fs” and “fairly egregious errors in judgement” (drinking, cheating, illegal activities). However, in the end she said “If this current grade trend for senior year continues, our Director of Admissions may want to discuss your academic performance with you, largely to ensure your well-being and to plan for any additional assistance you may need on campus.[…] Again, I think our office will be open to conversation about your slight dip in grades, but I do not think we will rescind your admission outright.” I’m surprised she called it a “slight dip” in grades LOL.

I won’t do anything illegal and get failing grades (D or F) so should I really be fine? I heard for UCB and UCLA you need a 3.0 so I got worried but it seems Vandy is more lenient. Really needing some reassurance!

No one here can give you a better answer than what you already got directly from Vanderbilt. You’d be better off focusing on improving your grades with the time you have left vs seeking reassurance. In other words, focus on what you can control.

Yup! That’s true haha! I’ll focus on maintaining my grades now and maybeee there’s a possibility of bringing my GPA up to a 3.0 heh.

What happened, why the score drop? If it’s due to stress or bad familial circumstance ( someone died) you can explain that to them.
