Is it true its easier to get in with a non impacted major?

I am a senior in high school and I heard many people who have been rejected from Cal Poly with a 3.8 GPA since they wanted to major in to Business, but ones that have been accepted with a 2.67 GPA since they wanted to major in Architecture. Can choosing a non impacted major really effect my changes of getting in to a college?

[To that specific major, yes, since enrollment is limited](Capped Majors). It shouldn’t affect actual admission to the college, but you’ll be admitted as Undeclared (possibly with few opportunities to transfer into the impacted major that you want).

@Lavender123: I do not know where you are getting your information, but all majors are impacted at SLO. I highly doubt anyone with a 2.67 GPA got into the Architecture program recently. See the Stats from last year.

Impacted majors have higher requirements for admission, so choosing an non-impacted major will give you a better chance for acceptance. However, if you try to get in through the “back door” persay, it is usually very difficult to switch into an impacted major later on. If you do not have the Stats for your desired major, then you should consider going to a CC for 2 years and transferring into your first choice major and school.
