Is it true Ivy League doesn't give FA to recruited atheletes?

Is it true Ivy League doesn't give FA to recruited atheletes, especially for tennis players?

Harvard is need blind. The school gives financial aid to those that qualify for it. Being an athlete has nothing to do with it one way or the other.

Harvard is need-blind gives FA to everyone who qualifies for it. Being an athlete will not affect whether or not you’ll receive FA.

Actually, Harvard is anything but need-blind. If Harvard deems you not needy, Harvard will charge you a great deal of money!

so there’s no recruited athelete at Ivies?

I think what the above posters meant to say is that Harvard only gives out financial aid based on need, they do not award athletic or merit scholarships. Being need-blind means that a family’s ability to pay doesn’t factor into their admissions decisions.

Does Harvard have recruited athletes? If by recruited athletes you mean athletes who are offered athletic scholarships then no Harvard does not have recruited athletes. But being a really good athlete could help you get into Harvard.

@ Sewhappy - Just curious, were you being sarcastic, or are you unfamiliar with the term need-blind?

This is actually a topic of some dispute. Although none of the Ivies are allowed to give merit aid to athletes, some of the poorer Ivies are complaining that better aid at HYP allows them to recruit superior athletes.

There was also a very interesting article in the NYT about Ivy recruiting.

Ivy league schools give FA to athletes but no scholarship. But there are still recruited athlete (I know personally because one of my teacher played basketball for Harvard and one of my friend is going to Harvard for basketball). However, these recruited students are also good academically.

Just wondering, I thought you say you weren’t good at tennis afraidtoapply.

You’re admitted as a student, not as an athlete. Officially you’re not a recruited athlete… so just fill out your forms and they’ll treat you like everyone else with regards to aid.
