(My high school doesn't rank students, by the way.)

yes, it’s true. They look at 10 to 11th grade, and your mid-year report. While this is true, if you had an adverse freshman year with poor grades, it’s still likely to negatively affect your application due to rank impact.

YES!!! Also, if my dad went to Carnegie for grad school, am I a legacy for undergrad!?!?

My school doesn’t rank.

good. And yes, that counts as legacy as long as he received a degree (if he was a post-doctoral researcher at the Carnegie Institution only, then no).

Oh nvm! I thought this was the CMU forum. he went to Carnegie Mellon.
But still, I posted on Hopkins 'cause I’m interested in the school. Does JHU include electives in GPA?

i thought it was core classes, but you might want to ask admissions.

Is it commonplace for schools to exclude electives?

Ya I’m pretty sure this is why I got in, as my freshman year was pretty bad (3.2 or so UW), but I’ve had a 4.0 or 3.9 every semester since (only 2 b’s)…

edit: The Hopkins forums stated they do REVIEW freshman year grades but they do NOT use them in their recalculated GPA (meaning if you did terrible it will affect you but your calculated gpa will not be impacted).
