Is it true that between UCLA and UC Berkeley, you can get into one or the other but not both?

Some people told me that unless your application is insanely good, if you get into UC Berkeley you will get rejected from UCLA, and if you get into UCLA you will get rejected from Berkeley. Is this claim valid? It worries me because Berkeley is my first choice but I got into UCLA today.

@strugglingGuy

That’s totally not true. Don’t worry.

If you are qualified for UCLA, you are most likely qualified for UCB. Both have the same ranking as public universities:) Many UCLA students were accepted into Berkeley as well, so don’t assume you won’t get in to UCB! But go bruins;)

You can get into both. Contrary to popular belief the UCs do not collaborate

Not true. 2 of my kids got into both as did several of their friends.

Many students get into both however the two schools look for different attributes in an application which is why you might see one student get into Berkeley and not UCLA and another into UCLA and not Berkeley.

Where do people hear this stuff? Totally false.

Completely false. I got into both and attend UCLA. A majority of my friends here who applied to Berkeley also got in there, and of course I know people who got into one and not the other. But there is no correlation.

And congrats on getting into UCLA!!

Not true. Each school has its own admission process and there’s no correlation. My S2 got admittef to both so did some of his friends. My S1 was waitlisted at UCLA but got into Berkeley, so did some other kids we know. I really hope people will stop spreading the false info.
