Is it true that Emory doesn't care much about class rank?

Cuz I looked at their page on CollegeBoard.com, and class rank was only under the "considered" category (the lowest in the hierarchy of admission factors). I'm only in the top 14%, which worries me when it comes to prestigious schools like Emory.

What would those of you who attend Emory say they look for the most in applicants?

I got in as 127th/856- top 15%. But that was ED1. They told me they emphasize how hard your class choices are - lots of APs, but I only took Eng/gov my jr year and eng/micro/us history my sr yr. i usually took honors classes if they were offered though, except spanish and geometry. so i guess im an exception to that. our school offers every AP class but I took some blow off electives like Sports Nutrition. So I guess theres an exception. I think I got in because of my essays and recs, so those play a huge part. If you go to a prestigious HS, your rank doesn't mean as much. I didn't have any awards, but I was a varsity athlete and I started clubs, did some volunteer work, etc. So extracurricular stuff definitly helps. And I heard that guys are easier to get in because the school is more girls than guys. There's not really anything you can do but wait I guess. Hopefully that helps though.

Well, I do go to a fairly prestigious high school (one of the top 60 in the country, I believe). Does anyone have a class profile of Emory that includes CR?

Wow, this board is really slow...

Not too many "Emorites," I see.

granted, my school didnt officially rank, but i got in last year and there was no way i was top 15%...im not even 100% sure i was top 50%....but then again....top 10% all have 4+ GPA's....dunno, but anythings possible

Wait, so did you get into Emory, or what? (Sorry if it was supposed to be implied and I didn't get it.)

Anyway, I'm not too sure I'd want to go here anymore; it seemed like an ideal school, I was really falling in love with it based on the reviews I had read, but then I found out it didn't have an engineering school, which is where I'm fairly likely to end up going. So yeah, discovering their lack of engineering was a major letdown for me.

they have a program with georgia tech tough. ba at emory, bs of engineering at tech. just for kids like you lol. and isnt tech supposed to be a really good engineering school? good luck with your decision.

I thought that was only for Biomedical Engineering or something. I could definitely be wrong, though.

grapple, Georgia Tech is an excellent engineering school and it is sort of looked at like the engineering school for Emory or vice versa. it is well known, well-respected and it is a tough curriculum (like all engineering schools). Obviously great sports and near Emory.

Yeah but I heard the "joint program" with Emory and GTech was only for Biomedical Engineering. I'm not saying GTech is a bad school or anything, I just wouldn't wanna do Biomed.

you just gotta be ready to stay for a 5th yr. 6th year for a masters.

http://www.college.emory.edu/students/degree/index.html

any engineering major at ga tech

Oh okay, so you CAN do any form of engineering you want. Well, I'll consider it, but 5-6 years is a lot of money, plus I've heard not-so-good things about GATech

6 yrs isnt bad at all for a ba from emory and a ms in engineering, but i dont blame you. i dunno anything about ga tech either except its ranked pretty high in engineering. good luck with your decision.

Well, now that I'm considering Emory again, what DO they look for in admissions? Just how hard your classes are and your grades?

i got accepted with 1370 sat (i retook it and got a 1420, but they never saw it), top 15%, 5 ap (never saw test scores, though). I didn't even really take the hardest schedule possible either. i took a couple of blow off classes and a couple honors when i could have taken ap, a couple reg when i could have taken honors, etc. but i applied ed1 and i worked really really hard on my essays and i got good recs. i got the feeling your essays, recs, and interest were extremely important.

doggra-- good to know! yeah my gpa/rank isnt extremely high but i have a lot of ECs, 99th percentile PSAT (though i did think the SAT practice test i took was harder), and i know my essay and recs will prob be my strong point... and i may apply ED (is it a major advantage?).... i hope i'll get in!

(oh also i visited the campus, so high interest level)

--grapple where did you find the info about what matters to emory?

also, anyone else have stats that got into emory (preferably NOT the people who got 4.0s and 1600s haha)?

i dont know anything about the new sat. im so sorry yall have to be put through that ;o).

i got in ed1 this year with a 1390, 3.95 weighted, top 15%, no sat2. i think i got in becuase i wrote good essays (they read them, so work hard on em), i had great recs, and i was a varsity athlete and really active with clubs, and a little volunteer work. ed is a huge advantage. i never really thought i would get in, seeming how impossible emory is to get into. im excited about it. you dont have to have amazingly high grades. they will be able to tell if you will be a good match.

oh and if you can find a way, visit the campus. thats what sold me on ed. i was convinced immediately.

yes i fell in love with the campus... it was kind of one of those things where you just KNOW thats where you wanna be :)
