I want to be a lobbyist for VA, and intend to volunteer a lot before I apply to transfer, but I was told by someone that Poly Sci is a tough major to transfer into UCB for. He told me "i'd have to really stand out"...is this..high school all over again?!

Poli Sci falls under social sciences which admits about 18% of applicants.

social sciences admit 18%, this includes more impacted majors such as biology and chemistry. Political Science is not difficult to get admitted to. I would estimate the acceptance rate around 30%. If your g.p.a is around 3.7 and you write decent essays and are in your colleges honors program you are basically a shoe in. Do a club or 2 to show your interest outside of just education.

Are you really asking if one of the most prestigious universities in the country is hard to get into?

Social Sciences does not include Biology and Chemistry. I don’t even know how you came to that conclusion. Biology falls under Biological Sciences (wow imagine that) and Chemistry has its own college.

When attempting to be helpful it is best to have a source of information that substantiates your claims. http://students.berkeley.edu/files/Admissions/12626_5.Info_TransAdm.pdf

I really hope users of this website can do their own research and do not solely rely upon the information given by equally uninformed users.

With all that being said, I do believe SoccerDude’s estimates are pretty close based upon the Berkeley admits thread of last year. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/706220-official-2009-berkeley-admissions-rejections-thread.html?highlight=ucb

Also, just because you are a transfer student and not a high school student doesn’t mean acceptance should just be given to you.

you can use statfinder to track your stats with your gpa and acceptances to see where you stand
