Is it true that some colleges offer scholarships for high ACT scores but not SAT?

One of my school teachers told me the other day that the University of Texas at Austin offers scholarships or financial aid for high scores on the ACT, but not for the SAT. Can anyone verify this? Are there any other colleges that offer scholarships for ACT scores?

I have never heard of schools doing this. Even if a school only posts a certain type on their website, they typically will accept the other equivalent.

As for UT…I don’t know what UT is offering these days. I heard that they have been moving away from merit scholarships to give more need-based aid.

Did you check UT’s website? If not, you should.

Agreed - check their website, but I’m pretty sure that’s an admissions myth. I’ve never heard of a criteria like that - it would more or less ensure that the majority of the recipients are from the MidWest, where the ACT is much more prominent.

That is not true. ALL schools accept both the ACT and SAT.
