I'm from Minnesota... >_>

yes its true... they very rarely accept out of state students.

very very very very very very very very very very very very very rarely

The UCLA acceptance rate for OOS students is usually a little bit lower than the in-state acceptance rate though the OOS pool is stronger. Search for threads started by the user "flopsy" and you should find stats and figures about the two pools. I also suggest searching for threads entitled "Decisions" within the UCLA forum - you will find stats.

An interesting number is that 10% of the incoming freshman class is OOS and 3% are int'ls.

-An OOSer who isn't directly answering your question but is nevertheless helpful

my roommate is from minnesota.

Even if admitted, I think that tuition is 4x as much as instates?

No. http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/budget.htm

its about 25k(just for the tuition part)

UCLA is admitting more out-of-state freshman students than ever before.
The Class of 2006 is 13% out-of-state or international.

In-state admit rate: 25.83%

Out-of-state admit rate: 27.05%
International admit rate: 22.61%

Hmm...based upon Flopsy's figures, I'd say you're very very very very very very very very very wrong.

But I suppose that 27.05% is way more rare than 25.83%.

Wait a sec...

Well, there are fewer OOS applicants than in-state. So it looks like chances are slightly higher because there are fewer admits, but the NUMBER of OOS admits is certainly a lot less.

Either way, it's not like the UCs admit OOSers only "very very....very rarely."

I've met quite a lot of OOS and international transfers
well, more than I expected

I only knew a few, myself. I think the UCs should work harder for those cash cows!

8/9 students from my school got accepted and only two decided to come here (I'm from Maryland). It's not that it's much harder for OOS students to get in, it's just a lot more expensive...

My total cost for this year is $40,001.

I still have no idea how that extra dollar got there...

Great! I'm applying :D

I have quite a few friends who got accepted there(from OoS) with not-so-stellar applications, so I think that although it is harder to get in from OoS, it's not by all that much.

I plan on applying from OOS...but i'm afraid because I have like no great EC's...
