Is it true that UCs will give local CC priority?

When I say local I means the local city.
Like UCLA will admit more students from LA's CC like SMC, PCC etc.

Is that true??

Because I saw that a lot of students in De anza, foothill and DVC(CC in SF) can go to UCB, and hundreds of students in SMC and PCC(in LA) go to UCLA.

Or is it just because students are more intended to choose a uni which is near their CC so they don't need to move?

No !!!

no

10 char

Darnit… :[

Nope, and some adcoms still believe that CC classes < UC classes, even when they are equivalent (and sometimes harder at the CCs)

Most (but not all) of the Cal State schools give preference to students attending CCs in their local service area. The UCs do not do this.

Not true for UC, only for CSU.

UCs do not have a geographic preference within California. Most CSUs do, however.

Sometimes, a CC will model its curriculum on a local UC or CSU, so the local CCs near your target UC or CSU may be more likely to include one with better coverage of your desired major’s prerequisites. For example, Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo tends to have better coverage of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo courses than most other CCs.

Use [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) to see what each CC has in terms of courses to prepare you for your major at UC and CSU schools.

didn’t students in the la jolla area this year get to tag to ucsd still with a 3.0 or what ever agreement they had.

Thanks everyone!

@jnguyen471: yeah, its called UniversityLink! cc in san diego only need a 3.0gpa… while tag requires 3.5gpa :
