Is it true that...

I've heard that Tulane is admitting/attempting to recruit more students than ever due to the evacuation issues that they randomly face. I know this may be an ignorant question, but I have actually seen a lot of unlikely applicants get accepted from around my area (Boston). How accurate is this rumor?

And also, for any current students in here, how do you like the school in general? I'm just trying to get as many facts together as possible to help me determine my final decisions when it comes to that time. I know New Orleans is a surreal place, though I've never been. I would love to visit but I doubt that will happen. I am pretty big into the social scene and I would love to hear opinions from those who have experienced it all first hand. thanks :)

it wouldnt do that because they had 34K applicants for 1400 spots last year

btw i just found out i was accepted :D

I can't really speak on behalf of what it's like at Tulane, but as for the first part.

I think in some ways they are. I mean, when you hear New Orleans (atleast up here in the north, like you and I are) it has a really bad connotation. People associate it will murder, crime and poverty and think that New Orleans is in terrible condition (which don't get me wrong, some parts are, but not the entire city).

So, I think there is a somewhat scare after Katrina and they are trying to compensate for it with the VIP applications and such. But I don't know about unlikely applicants... what makes them unlikely in your opinion? You need to keep in mind, that you don't know exactly how qualified someone is. They might have great essays or recommendations or a justification for poor grades. I'd like to think that the admissions process isn't completely one dimensional...

exactly. they dont even guarantee admission to LA students unless you have at least a 28+ ACT and 3.5+gpa with top 15% in class so its not an easy school to get into. getting into the 50th best school in america isnt easy (maybe im saying this because im in and i want to feel special)

Statistically it doesn't seem like they are admitting more students than usual, but it does seem like it is easier to get money than ever. I think that last year was the peak for Tulane's ease in admissions, and they will just continue to get more and more selective from now on. But hey, I could be wrong.
