<p>While researching about UMass i found out in the USnews website and some other website that the tuition fees for engineering is $2,500(In-state) and $9,700(Out of state). Is this true?</p>

<p>Keep in mind, tuition is very low (only $1714 for instate). BUT the fees are about 5932 for instate kids. Out of state, tuition is $9937 and fees are 9178.</p>
<p>UMass is a public state university. It exists primarily for the residents of the state, and residents partially subsidize it through taxes. Out of state students are viewed as a revenue source.</p>

<p>Very simple–your first link lists the costs for one semester, the second link lists costs for the whole year.</p>
<p>Also you have to pay room and board</p>
