Is it TRUE?

Oh, gosh. Thank you and everybody else who puts up with my sea stories. I sure enjoy you, usna09mom and all y'all (that's a Texasism) here.

Yeah, "All Y'all" is the plural of "Y'all"!

I stand corrected--what do I know, I'm a third-generation Californian. Though I still have terrible memories of driving across Texas as a child during the summer in a car without air conditioning on our way to Biloxi, Mississippi. I love Southern literature though and Lady Bird Johnson is one of my favorite people on the planet, next to other famous Texans including Walter Cronkite.

Since we've been living in the South, I've been reading more Southern lit: Besides Faulkner, Twain, and Williams, I've been reading Eudora Welty, Fannie Flagg (I want to live in her books), Pat Conroy, and Rebecca Wells (chick lit but cool). Good stuff.

Speaking of Conroy, I think The Great Santini is one the best, least-known movies around. Robert Duvall as Marine pilot Bull Meacham was amazing.

Speaking of Pat Conroy...loved the BOOK "Prince of Tides" when I read it years ago ...refused to see the movie, could not see Streisand in the role as the shrink! Besides some books just do not translate into film.

Starship Troopers
Clear and Present Danger
Raise the Titanic
The Bourne Identity

OY! All of them RUINED!

Zaphod: That's why Clive Cussler filed suit on Sahara & Raise the Titanic and why Tom Clancy is so paranoid - Harrison Ford just isn't right. I did love The Hunt for Red October, however, (probably due to Sean Connery) possibly the only thing Alec Baldwin has ever done that I like.

Ain't that the truth! I don't know about you, but Alec Baldwin is EXACTLY the way I always envisioned Jack Ryan.

Only Jack Ryan isn't clueless or obnoxious like Baldwin. :D

The Sum OF Our Fears...refused to see the movie but highly recommend the book. (Tom Clancy)

The book was unbelieveable, especially after the bomb went boom. After that, it was like "OMG! OMG! OMG!" I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. Started at 8PM, didn't finish until 4:30AM.

The movie, in a word, sucked. They copied scenes from Red Storm Rising, Ben AFLACK is no Jack Ryan, and the fact that they made the enemy a PC one ticked me off.

The only reedeeming feature in that movie was Morgan Freeman, and he got burnt to a cinder. WAY TO GO, Mr. Director!

Jack Ryan, former USNA history professor, yeah!

Funny y'all mention Pat Conroy - he had a scathing letter to the editor of our local newspaper today. Doesn't care for our mayor much. I wouldn't mind seeing ole Pat run for mayor - he sure loves our town!

You can imagine what a local hero he is around here! Glad to know his books are popular among the CC crowd - and of course the movies are never as good as the books!

Pat's one guy I'd like to meet.
