HEY, is it true U of C doesn't look at your freshmen year? If not what do they fill that weight with? I am assuming it's essays?

No, it's not.

No, no, soulinNeed, he's right.

See, in the admissions office, for each applicant, they have these four HUGE bags of sand, right? And they calculate the wieght of each of these bags to determine your admission. Each bag represents one year of highschool - the 'better' you are, the more sand goes in your bag for that year.

Now, usually the essays would go in the 12'th grade bag (bag 4). But since uchicago puts so much emphasis on the essays, and because kids tended to reach leadership roles by 12'th grade, the bag 4's started to overflow.

The bag people in the admissions office reported this. Acting quickly, the admissions office decided to stop looking at frosh year grades (to clear up space in bag one) and put the extra sand (or 'weight' as you mentioned) in there.

And all was well.

So yes, nobodyknows is exactly right - they don't look at frosh year grades, and the extra weight is filled by the essays, precisely.

ps. yeah, i think they do look at frosh year grades

hahahaha...

Wow, what if that was really true? "Ok this essay is mediocre, so it's only worth a pound of sand... but this essay, WOW! Ten pounds of sand for that one!"

hahahaha, that's great tennisdude

screw you all. Sorry I don't know as much as you guys, I mean it's not like this is an informational forum or something. What was I thinking. I must be an idiot for asking a question I don't know! How dare I try and learn something right?

Don't worry about it dude. Yes, The University does look at Freshman grades, but if they are poor, its not a huge deal. If your grades get progressively better throughout high school, its a plus. The U of C is a wierd college for admissions; as far as I know, they combine all parts of your application and grade it as a whole in order to render a decision. Don't sweat the sarcasm the others posters had; they might be stressed about getting in, or have other things going on. Your question certainly isn't stupid; many top colleges do in fact ignore 9th grade all together. If you want a more definative answer, perhaps email the University itself. It might take a few days, but at least you know the answer will be reliable.

That was a respectful and appreciated answer.

lol...................................

I believe all four years count, but UC will look at everything and take into account if your grades steadily improved from freshman year. Write amazing essays and you'll be buoyed up a lot.
