Today I read a thread by FutureIvyer saying that he got into Cornell and Brown by lying in his apps. Is it true that colleges usually dont spot or investigate for lies? There must be plenty of students who lied and got into their dream colleges. So do u thinks that anyone should do it cautiously?

Many people get away with lying on their application, but every year they(adcoms) randomly pick people and call their highschool and ask if they did what they did. Sometimes kids are caught because two people from the same school claim they were class president or another posistion. I don't think it's worth lying, because the consequences of getting caught are just too great and that little thing called morals.

Yea, I read that post too. That person was too much, but I think it was a troll. Did you notice the thread got erased? I wonder if the person decided to delete it or if it was the moderators? Either way, whether that person was making up the story or if it was true, I guess that there are people who lie on their apps.

oh well, i think that no one should lie, we should be more truthful, it's better to have a worst application than to lie and let them find out. plus, i think the person maybe joking. if one lies and the university finds out 10 years from the time he matriculated, the school may still take away the person's diploma, so i say, why risk it?

People definitely lie, but that thread made by futureivyer was a joke. No one can get away with lying that much....or atleast i wouldn't think so.

I reported the thread, so I think the moderators erased it. I also emailed Brown about it...call me a narc if you want, but what he did was wrong and completely unfair to anyone who applied honestly.

Um...you didn't need to email Brown...and I'm sure Brown isn't going to admit a tattle-tale if you're applying there.

i know u shouldnt have done that. do u know what that kid could do if he got rejected now? oh well, i think he probably lied. if he is probably messing with us.

btw, did northstarmom comment in that thread? what did she say.

My friend lied about ECs to UPENN, got flat-out rejected. He's still hoping for Cornell and a few other prestigous schools.

I think it's disgusting. If you don't think you can get in without lying, you definetly don't deserve to get in. Somebody else deserved that spot.

That being said, I put down on my application one or two activities that I totally intended on participating in, but I dropped them because I didn't have enough time. And I got into Cornell ED.

you "intended" on participating in? so how does that make you any better than anyone else who just flat-out lied? lol, I didn't think that it was possible to include prospective EC's on your app....

I'm not applying to Brown, I don't give a **** about Brown.

But people shouldn't get away with stupid **** like that.

pimpettchic, you complianed to Brown for no reason . I mean, he was just fooling us and u fell for it by turning him in. That was a pretty absurd thing for u to do by tattle-taling.

I paid the dues... picked a project... didn't get any farther due to a ton of work, which the advisor completely understood.

You guys are all breaking my heart, really. I care.

im sorry. wanna be friends?

ok I'm probably really missing something here, but how would Brown find out the identity of the poster who allegedly lied? or did he give away identifiying EC's...i missed the original thread.

umm... anybody interested about my crush?

tettyk, sorry to say it, but I don't see how what you did is a ny better than flat-out lying? I mean it really isn't fair if everyone puts down what they intended on doing but didn't get to do, because what about the person who does make the time commitment and gets the same acknowledgement as you do. I'm sure you had good intentions, but think about it.

I know where you're coming from, but there are people in my school that flat-out lied on their apps, like they made up clubs and positions in clubs that are completely false.
Since my apps were due early in October, I ahd joineda club and put it down on my app, but when push came to shove, I had more important committments to honor.

Hey, I think pimpettechic is right. Even if the guy was just a troll, she did what she thought was best. Ethical action and all that. On the off-chance that he wasn't a troll, it's not cool that he might've gotten in and bumped someone else off the list.
