Is it true that colleges don't like to see that a student applied to more than 8 schools? Will they discriminate against applicants who applied to too many?

umm they wont know where else u applied

So you think, people on here have posted about getting droped from other schools admission list because they were accepted else where. Iono how true it is but umm they do it.

they do know. trust me.

I've never heard of other colleges getting mad because a student applied to more than 8 schools. That's a hell of a lot of work to do though =/.

Schools don't know where else you've applied.

they...don't...know...

how can they know unless you TELL them? FA forms?

When you file the FAFSA, the FA office at that school does see the list of all the other schools that you have applied to. However, most elite schools that are need blind the financial aid and admissions offices totally operate as 2 separate entities so the admissions offices do not know what other schools you are applying to unless you specifically tell them on the application (some colleges do want to know where else you are applying ).

When I was filling out the FAFSA, I called both FA offices in colleges, and the FAFSA helpline (which, by the way, was always staffed by WONDERFUL folks!), and everyone said that the other colleges that are on the applicants list are NOT SEEN by anyone, at least through the FAFSA conduit. Obviously, there is a lot of mythology attached to this difficult process. :)

bbecker, the posts that I've seen about being dropped from other admissions lists don't have anything to do with how many you applied to. They have to do with double depositing. It's not a problem to apply to more than 8 schools. Some of my d's friends applied to 11-15, and had excellent results.
