is it true?

I've heard from some people that there is some tension between ethnic groups at Princeton, and want to know if this is true. One of my friends who went there (who is African american) told me that the other people on the campus who werent african american did not want to make friends with her. Also I've heard from another friend (who is Asian) that the white guys didn't want him hanging around with them. Are these things common at Princeton, because if they are, then I'm not sure if I want to go there.

there are going to be people that have prejudices at any school. In my experience at Princeton, I would say that if anything, Princeton is one of themost diverse and accepting groups around. Don't base your opinions on what one person has experienced, theres often more to the story.

Yeah, princecon's conservative image is obsolete. Especially under the new admissions dean, the campus is more diverse than ever, and it seems that they truly care about making things go as smoothly as possible for people of different backgrounds and ethnicities. Nearly the entire campus is liberal, so while there might be a few jerks who judge you based on appearance, they are much less common than at most other college campuses (or at least that's my impression from my conversations with students.)

Racism will occur pretty much anywhere you go. I'm sure that princeton has a fairly good acceptance of minorities on campus, considering that the school is so diverse. However, regardless of the diversity present, there is still always that hidden and unobtrusive racism that goes on behind the scenes.

Princeton is not diverse. Blacks, latinos, and native americans make up only a small portion of the student body. If you're looking for diverse, look outside the Ivy League.

Yes, princeton has largely shed its conservative image, but there isn't as much racial intermixing as you think there would be. People just like hanging out with people like them... it's a problem in a lot of places.

The administration sells Princeton to be a diverse school that it really isn't. It's like that picture in the Yale catalog of an asian, white, and black student talking together with President Levin. Right....

EDIT: I forgot to mention that things may be getting better for the 09ers, as Rapelye admitted a record percentage of minorities for your class.

Certain races seem to mix more than others. And my d, who is white and from a very diverse hs, has a much more diverse group of friends at Princeton than she did in hs, where people of particular races sat at different cafeteria tables. The whole situation is in process, as it is everywhere, and there is plenty of dialogue about it. The student government is African-American and was the president of the black student union. Many of the EC groups, which are very tightly knit, offer opportunities for students of different races to become good friends.
