Is it unusual/weird for college men to dress "conservatively"?

I've been in college for a year now and I noticed that most other guys in college (I'm a guy) dress like they did in high school--with loud graphics/designs and prominent brand names which I see over and over again every day. I've never really been into that; I don't care for the loud designs and I don't want to have "Hollister" or "American Eagle" or whatever plastered across my chest. I usually just wear basic jeans, plain, conservative shirts, and casual leather shoes. I still do all my shopping in the young men's section, though, and all of my clothes are age-appropriate (i.e. I still dress in the style of someone my age--not formal or old-fashioned, just more conservative). It's just that I never felt the need (or the desire) to wear graphic tees or loud advertisements.

(I am white, 5'10", 155 lbs., with dark brown eyes and thick black hair about 3 inches long, and I prefer darker-colored clothes.)

Anyway, I noticed this tendency at one school, and I was just wondering how common it is at other schools. I know that no one really cares how you dress in college, but I'm just curious if the way I dress is as unusual as it seems to be.

I have no idea what conservative means in the context of your post, however, the part where it started to sound like a personal ad was sufficiently creepy.

A+ thread, would read again.

lol @ modestmelody

Are you moderately attractive, too, ihavenochance? Do you wear your hair in front of your eyes to look mysterious?

What are “conservative” shirts? Do they read “Palin 2012”? ;)

Seriously, I have no idea. That’s how little I pay attention to clothing, I can’t tell you what the guys where at my campus.

Graphic tee =/= advertisements. Get outside of your mall-America bubble.

i still wear band shirts from when i was edgy in high school.
and then i wear a lot more plain white fruit of the loop tees. occasionally i’ll wear a polo, but usually they’re from teams i’ve been a part of that had polo shirts.

and jeans or super short running shorts when idgaf

also, the way you described yourself as dressing sounds boring. Most people don’t care what brand of clothes you wear, only how you look in them.

Plain colored t shirts = not good. If you must wear plain shirts, stick to white tees.

Throw in some polos, a couple button down shirts, some fancier t shirts, and you should be fine.

I don’t think it really matters if you wear that kinda stuff when you go to class or walk around campus. I usually wear (and I’ve noticed other people do too) shirts with my college’s name on them or shirts with my fraternity’s letters. You should probably wear something nicer if you go out/go to a party or something. Try wearing a nice polo or button down shirt or something that’ll make you stand out.

stand out from all of the other fratty guys?

wearing shirts with the designer label right on it (AE/Aeropostale) is lame as hell. if youre wearing a graphic tee, at least put on a nice one that doesn’t make you look like you have generic style.

i personally wear a mix-up of graphic tees, nice shirts, single-color polos, and fitted hats. lots of ways to mix up stuff with nice kicks and jeans.

I hate graphic tees. Actually I dislike the fit/style of most t-shirts in general. My friends like this because I tend to give away all the free t-shirts I get from school/clubs/advertisements.

I usually wear polo shirts. And by I usually, I mean just about every day. Some days, usually in cooler weather, I’ll wear a button down shirt with a plain undershirt under it.

I live in Texas (and will be going to school in Austin), so there isn’t much coat/jacket wearing outside of December/January. And even then it’s like two weeks worth.

Personally, I would never wear hollister graphic tees or stuff like that, its gay.
…anyways…

Wear what you want, wear clothes that make you feel good.
But be aware that dressing in a way that is outside of your peers’ reality will alienate you from them.

I dont know who you are or your social status, so I cant give you detailed advice.

If by conservative you mean plain and simple clothes such as a white shirt or a nice dress shirt (the basics), then I think you’ll be fine.

In fact, I’ve heard that no one cares what your style is in college…some people even wear pjs to class!

What you wear does matter (relative to your social status, if you’re a loser its doesnt matter).

what a stupid thread. you have to ask if some people wear plain clothes, instead of graphic or logo shirts? christ…

SERIOUSLY? You mean to say that some people DON’T revamp their wardrobes EVERY SINGLE YEAR OF THEIR ENTIRE LIVES? Who would have thunk it?

/sarcasm

I sure hope the OP is a fashion designer or something. Otherwise, this is just weird.

i’m sure hes not a fashion designer,
otherwise he wouldnt be so unsure of his fashion

I love threadless, pandem! =D

“I live in Texas (and will be going to school in Austin), so there isn’t much coat/jacket wearing outside of December/January. And even then it’s like two weeks worth.”

Last year it was cold in like November in Austin. Really cold. Feels worse when you have to walk everywhere.

what’s cold in austin, tx?

“what’s cold in austin, tx?”

It was cold. Cold wind. Sorry, I don’t remember the EXACT degrees since it was like 9 months ago. It’s the kind of cold that you’d want to wear a coat in. Which was my point.

No, but it’s weird to pay so much attention to what your peers are wearing while having your nose stuck in the air.
