I dont have my final financial aid package yet, just an estimated one. Would it be dangerous to accept my housing offer while not knowing 100% for sure what my final finaid offer will be?

Great question....I'm in the same position except we are not offered our housing assignments until June (transfer students that is), but I certianly would wait til the EFan was a sure thing before I signed anything.

If it's important enough that the difference between going and not going is in the financial aid, then don't accept. You'd just be losing a deposit. I will note that in my experience at UCSC, however, the "estimated" package is not far off from the actual package -- actually, they underestimated my Cal Grant award, so I ended up getting more (good thing, too, since they gapped me --; ).

But the big question is, where else are you going to stay?

oh i forgot to say: i live in los angeles (downtown). 30-45min drive from ucla.

UCApplicant, is that a serious question? You can "stay" anywhere. There are roommate locator services, CHO, local paper, or just commuting from home, which is what the kids at Berkeley do, trust me. My friends from Stanford and NYU all go to great lengths just to get to school and to them, it's well worth it. Paying over 600 a month for a meal plan is not always the most economic option for some. There is no guarantee that you'll get great Financial Aid packages/scholarships for all 4 years, so if you can save a little money along the way, that'd be best.

Passerby, I live 55 miles away and I can get to campus in 45 minutes easily. Wow...30-45? That's some brutal street traffic. I've driven it but I never timed it.

PS-Have you read what they can do to your record if you ever miss a payment? things along the lines of eviction, the inability to enroll, a hold on academic records, and not releasing transcripts, including the inability to graduate..I was going to submit my application this afternoon but.....after I read that, I figured I could find a better situation off-campus with friends. You never know what can happen, I wouldn't chance it.

Wilshire takes about 35-45, with its stoplights. 110N-10W-405N takes about 25-30mins, 20 if ur fast, unless its rush hour, in which case wilshire is better. :p
