Is it utterly gauche to wear your high school letter jacket at college?

S2, a four year starter on the high sch. football team had zero interest in getting a letter jacket. Letter jackets are not really that popular at his h.s (not a 'status" symbol ) and are expensive. He could see no reason in spending money on something he would never wear after high sch. He wanted a Carhartt jacket instead (which he has worn a lot),lol. He will prob. take that one to college next year.

He did get a team hoody with his last name and jersey number on the back. He has worn it a lot but won’t take it to college. He already has two hoodies from the college he will be attending. They will prob. be his college uniform.

I have read that wearing high sch. stuff at college is a dead giveaway that you’re a freshman.
