I didn't get good vibes from georgetown and felt that it felt kinda cold and impersonal and there weren't enough trees, it was too blocky, it felt too big.

but american felt really homey, close-knit, lots of pretty green, and its honors program sounds prettycool and selective.

so even though georgetown is way more selective, isit ok if i put au on my college list instead of georgetown?

My d. preferred American to Georgetown and didn't even apply to the latter. Perhaps less prestigious, but also less pretentious. And relatively easy to organize a joint major in international business/international service.

I think that you should go with your gut feeling about the school. The entire point in my opinion of college visits is to get a "feel" for whether or not the school is a good fit for you....Listen, you will be there for 4 years! You should love it! :)

Georgetown's football stadium shouldn't be compared to D1A or an Ivy. It's really only in FCS, rather than D3 it was for 40 years with Catholic, JHU and the NESCAC schools, because of a change in NCAA bylaws.
But it could be much better. There's DC PUBLIC high schools with comparable facilities.

My D loved AU and is looking at G'town, too. I think everything you said is true about both schools....go with your gut. Its not about name, its about how happy you'll be there and how challenged you'll be.

To judge a University on it's D3 football team is a bit superficial, no? If you like American University's "feel" then by all means go for it. Georgetown may seem pretentious, but if you speak to the students, you will be surprised.

GW has a "city" feel because it's campus is integrated into the city. You walk across streets and several blocks to go to buildings. Georgetown has an enclosed campus. Personal "preference" was never important to me, but I know that a majority of people use that as a basis for attending a school. Apply regardless and decide when you know whether or not both options are even available to you

I think a 45-year-old gal who works down at my local post office is hotter than Charlize Theron or Kate Hudson. Aesthetic and qualitative evaluations are much more subjective than quantitative evaluations.
