Is it worth appealing for UC Berkeley?

So I was recently rejected for UC Berkeley with a 3.6 gpa and I applied for Near Eastern Civilizations. I was admitted into UCLA however. I was part of Phi Theta Kappa, the Honors List, and TAP for UCLA. I applied to a different major for UCLA and was admitted, but my real major that I want to pursue at Cal is Near Eastern Civilizations. I dont think I put enough emphasis on this major and my love for Cal in the essay. I am now graduating from the Honors Program in May and am receiving a medalion. I also have some other awards that I would like to mention since november's application. Should I send an appeal? I heard it does work and go through.

Congratulations on getting into UCLA! I’m sorry about UCB, though; I’m going through the same thing right now. I might mention the awards, but I think that in your case, placing more emphasis on the program you’re applying to might be effective. You can take that with a few grains of salt, though, since I’m in the same boat as you—denied for UCB admissions, and am planning on appealing the decision. One of the criteria for writing appeals to UCB’s admission office is that the information in the appeals be “new and compelling,” and I’m not 100% sure if having more awards would necessarily be compelling…depending on what they are.

got into UCLA, but not Berkeley… My entire app was written around Berkeley… :/

Same here. I definitely think it is worth it, we would all rather know we gave it everything we had instead of wondering about it forever. I may put a letter from some professors supporting my appeal in the packet I send them. It is very disappointing, but don’t ever give up on your dreams.

Yeah, I’m strongly considering appealing, because I don’t feel my application explained my situation well enough at all.

Did you guys decide to appeal?? I submitted mine today.

I did, also created a thread for those of us who sent our appeal packets in.

Awesome. I’ll catch you on that thread. :)
