So basically, Georgetown is the only college on my list that I haven’t been able to visit and thus the only one I couldn’t get a super good sense of. My mom also thinks it’s one of the most out of place schools on my list since it’s so big and I’m mostly applying to LACs.
The two main selling points it has for me personally are the vibrant but not overwhelming Jewish community, the NHS, and this one improv club they have call the GUerillas. On the other hand, I’m not really sure i’d be able to answer the “Why Georgetown” question without mentioning those multiple times.
So, basically my question is the title, do you think I should still apply or do I not have enough compelling reasons to do so? Are there any more compelling things about Georgetown that could give me more reason to apply? I could give you a run down of who I am if you think you’d be able to find more compelling reasons based off of that. Thanks
There’s no specific “Why Georgetown” essay in the app. The first one asks you about what you do during the summer, the second one is a Common App-esque essay about identity and background, and the last one is school-specific (unless something changed from when I applied). There’s no reason why you shouldn’t apply if you feel you like the school.
Thank you for the response! When I was writing the topic, I guess I had essays in the back of my head even though I was thinking more an adult asking me why I would have applied.
Is it really okay to apply just because I like some of the programs and opportunities? Everyone else applying seems super hyper passionate about the university as a whole.

Of course! That’s most people’s reasons for why they applied to their colleges, I would imagine. If you like the school’s program and can see yourself be happy there, by all means apply.
It doesn’t hurt to apply; once you are accepted you can then go to admitted students weekend at the school to see if it’s a good fit.
I am an incoming freshman who will be attending Georgetown’s NHS so here’s my advice:
For the school specific essay, describe how the specific major you are applyinh to at Gerogetown suits your interest and fits your career goals. The majors at Georgetown’s NHS- global health, human science, healthcare management- are very unique to Georgetown.
I being a human science major wrote about why the human science major piqued my interest: I mentioned that it was strongly focused on the science behind the human body (I want to be a doctor) and I also mentioned Georgetown’s connection to its med school/hospital. I mentioned specific classes and programs that show that I know what I’m talking about.
What major are you applying for?
If you PM me I can show you excerpts from my essay; I’m hesitant to post it here because I don’t need the general public to see my essay lol.
