(I've posted a chances before but it's critical that I receive more opinions--I am deciding whether it's worth it to take the SAT II's and apply to UPenn). I happen to be a legacy. I am a junior with a 4.07 GPA, weighted. On the SAT's I received a 720 reading, a 680 writing and a 470 math. I have an LD which makes math very challenging. If I explain this, will they cut me some slack on the math component, or do Ivy Leagues not account for learning disabilities? I am planning on retaking the SAT's, so I foresee my writing and reading scores improving, however, math is hard to predict. Because of the LD, I have received consistent C's in math, despite A's and the occasional B in all other subject areas. Will this be an issue even if my GPA is acceptable?

I am an editor of our school's newspaper, which is ranked as the best in the state and has won several nationwide awards. I have carved out a niche with my columns, focusing on anthropology and the sociological reprecussions of technology. I have done an in-depth study for the paper on Amish life, interviewing German professors as well as several former members of the Amish. I also have investigated issues of local significance, such as racial and political discrimination triggered by the election of Obama in my town. I recently attended the national JEA/NSPA journalism convention.

I volunteer for a nationally-recognized student environmental organization, and have been selected by my principal as a member of a student leadership committee. I am also involved in our school's theater department, having acted in a production as well as serving as a public relations manager for our school's musical. In addition, I served as a volunteer in INTERACT club.

Last summer I was selected to participate in a state-wide business education program. This summer, I plan on being an intern at the U.S. Constitution Center in Philadelphia, as well as freelancing for my local newspaper. I also anticipate doing historical re-enacting for a local folk organization. I have held a job since the age of 14, and I have also provided childcare for an organization at an elementary schools in our district. This summer I am planning to volunteer for a student ecology camp.

Do I stand a chance?
