Is it worth applying to a top university or should I just work hard and transfer?

john, You are asking the same thing. Good schools do not look past academics. When thousands of kids are applying to each college, it’s essential for admissions to have a standard criteria set. Parents have given you recommendations for safeties and matches. We’ve done research for you and rearranged your list to fit a better reach, match, safety order. What you do need to understand is that you own your high school gpa and ACT/SAT scores. They are a reflection of you and your high school history. To assume that colleges are going to disregard them and admit you because you feel that you have potential is wrong. I’m not saying that you’re not college material or not capable of pursuing your dream of becoming a doctor. What we are all trying to tell you is that you need to be a bit more grounded in your choices. Go back a read the links that were in your other thread which state the freshman profiles of the schools you have mentioned. People have given you more than enough information on this subject for you to go back and rearrange your list to better fit safety, match, and reach. You may not like the fact that certain schools are out of reach but that is the reality of it.

No one wants to say something that they don’t fully believe in. Simple as that. Don’t blame us for your misfortunes.

You can try to go to CC and transfer out. That’s another option. One you’ve proposed. So that’s our collective answer. We all think you can either raise that ACT score and try to make it into an instate public, or you can go to CC - join the Honors College, and transfer out.

I’d recommend Ohio State. It’s not a very difficult school to get into, but it has some very good academic programs. Someone from my high school got in with the same ACT and about a 3.3 GPA.

this thread didnt mean to get serious my final list of schools i would say is very realistic and aside from 3 schools i wouldnt be suprised if i got into all of them. i meant it as a just to do it just for fun. i then started to get upset about some of the posts bringing past posts into this. I am pretty sure I can get into Michigan State University and for my entire life that has been my dream school. No one told me my grades were really important or anything so i just didnt put a lot of effort into school. Then I found this site and started to hear about the amazing oppurtunities to be found by going to a top 30 college. All of a sudden MSU and the rest of my previous list wasnt good enough and i was launched into unknown territory. I then have been quite obsessed about this whole process.

Now my list is fairly realistic i would say (said this before, highest ranked university is Boston University). But personally i was thinking what if i were to apply to an unrealistic school.

And so came this question: what is the most realistic unrealistic school i have a shot in hell at?

[Boston University Information Center](http://www.bu.edu/dbin/infocenter/content/index.php?pageid=909&topicid=12)

No to Boston University

http://www.northeastern.edu/oir/pdfs/07-08cds1.pdf</a>
Northeastern, you’re unrealistic school-your shot in heck school

Now, concentrate on your true safeties.

If you want to go to BU, you’ll get into the College of General Studies

from what i can tell, UMich is unrealistic.

You say you have a passion for learning as great as a 4.0 student, but what do you have to prove it? If it’s the beginning of your senior year, it’s quite frankly too late.
If you were asking at the beginning of your junior year, or even in the middle, i’d say buy a few AP books and start studying. You don’t need AP classes for AP exams, although they sure as hell help.

If you want to apply somewhere unrealistically, apply to Harvard, Princeton, and Yale. They’ll appreciate the drop in acceptance rate.

Sorry if this is harsh, but I doubt you will get into a top 40 school, let alone 20. That’s ridiculous. You’re being absolutely ridiculous.

There are a LOT of good schools that you can get into that are not necessarily 1st or 2nd tier. Just because a school is ranked x by USNWR doesn’t mean you must go there – especially not if you have the intent of transferring anyway.. Who knows, you may have a chance at some 2nd tier schools. But you will probably not get any scholarships with those stats and at that tier (2nd, because 1st is OUT OF THE QUESTION), you are going to pay a lot of money if you happen to get accepted out-of-state. If you are absolutely dead-set on doing well and transferring, I’d recommend applying to some less selective schools where you can get a decent education for a year or two at a low cost.

You have received a lot of good advice here already. Take it for what it is.

omgosh. he’s saying the exact same thing i wanted to say.

what you can’t even ask for advice on here if you’re not a perfect student without being *****ed out?

sometimes i wonder about some of you guys

oh and I don’t think you have a very good shot at a top 20 school, but theres nothing wrong with a lower tier school.

i mean you’d probably be happier at a worse school anyway getting better grades and having more fun!

everyone here is more than willing to help.

Asking seventy times won’t get new answers, especially not if the first answer was no.

Look through his history; he’s asked the same question tons of times.

even though it may not seem like it im not a partier. I have been invited to quite a few and turn most down. Dont get me wrong a good party is good now and then but i really enjoy intellectual conversation i still plan on getting into a school in the second or third tier of the uswnr.

yeah, i just feel like that if people on here are interested in lower tier schools that no one cares and treats the person worse.

probably a false accusation but just an inference
