Is it worth applying to FA...

Hi,

I am an international student and I was wondering if it was worth applying to FA.
My parents are earning about 200k per year (in US$) and they have about 3M worth in properties. We don't have any loan or any rent to pay. I have got two brothers (aged 5 and 8) but their school is free...

Should I still apply for FA? If yes what should I expect?
I just don't want my family to pay a lot for my studies...

Very few schools give FA to internationals. With your parents’ income, you would not be eligible for any need based aid, so I wouldn’t bother. Not needing FA would be a hook. It will cost your family 55k+/year for you to study in the US. If you don’t want your family to pay a lot, there are many other options besides coming to the US.

You’ll probably not get much from FA. If your parents have that much money and property, it’s probably ok to ask them to give you the money for the best education you can get. You may be supporting them some day, so you may get the chance to pay them back.

But if you come from a country with good schools (the UK, for example) there’s really no reason to come to the US for school.

I also applied in the UK which would be much cheaper as I am an European Citizen.
I will only go to the US if I am accepted into a top school that’s worth the money…

And thanks for your help, I finally only applied for FA in schools that are need blind for internationals (MIT, Harvard and Princeton).

With your parents’ income & assets, these schools unlikely will give you any aid
