NYU supplement says this, " If, after reviewing your application, we are unable to offer you admission to the school, college, or program you have selected and we believe another school, college, or program at NYU may be a better fit based on your qualifications, would you like to be considered for admission to another school, college, or program?"

But how many cases are there where they look to see if your better fit for another college? There isn't a section for an alternate major, so how would they know what you are interested in? I have the stats to be accepted to NYU CAS for example, but not for Stern, so I don't want to be rejected because of my major.

From what I know of, they usually drop students off at LSP. If students decide to attend LSP, they transfer to their desired colleges after two years of taking LSP courses.

By “drop off” it means they just put the students in CAS (i m not sure about LSP), probably because then the student can still have a chance of doing what they had wanted to do with a liberal arts degree. CAS might also give you the flexibility to transfer to the college that you wanted to go to, since in your first or second year, you are usually just trying to finish your core classes.

my suggestion is to apply to Stern, if you dont get in, and you have the stats for CAS then they most likely put you in CAS
