Hello! Despite what this account may lead you to believe, I actually am a first-time poster. This was my sister’s account, so it won’t do much good to read her old threads. I’m a junior right now and I just opened a Common App account. I’ve been doing a lot of thinking. My statistics are well below my sister’s. She got a 1600 on the SAT and I received a 33 on the ACT, and she was rejected from Princeton. Still, I am yearning to go to Harvard. I know, I know, so is the rest of the world, but I think I’d kick myself if I didn’t just apply. Is a 33 enough? I’ve also taken five AP courses so far and scored 5 on both exams last year and I’m hoping for 5s on the three I’m in currently. I did receive a B+ in Drivers’ Education. It’s me deepest shame haha… I’m ranked 20 out of 454. I know that’s not good enough. My extracurriculars are pretty decent (first team all-state in basketball, state runner-up in forensics, first place state essay competition–not technically extracurricular, I know–, co-founder of student improv group). If I were to write excellent essays, would I have a decent shot at the Ivy League, specifically HYPS? Just given that information.
As you learned from your sister, admittance to Ivy and equivalent schools is pretty much a crapshoot. It is fine to put in a couple of applications to those schools and see what happens. That way you never have to worry “what if”. But as I’d tell anyone, I’d focus the majority of your energy on finding match and safety schools that appear affordable and that you would be happy to attend.
A 33 will meet the hurdle of stats if your GPA matches. You do need to create your own account - forum rules.
People get in to Princeton and are rejected by Harvard and vice versa. Work hard on your essays and as stated, find solid matches and safeties to go with your reach (NOT dream school).
It’d be much easier to make your own account instead of running a disclaimer and possibly having the mods shut you down for sharing.
