Any Thoughts?

Yes. There’s literally nothing to do on campus (outside academics) unless you join some club which won’t do much but sell KBBQ/boba once in a while (probably). All the good places to be in/near Irvine are off campus. If you really can’t bring a car, do the next best thing and make friends with those who have cars.

Parking permits are super expensive but if you can afford it, go for it. But I didn’t have a car my first year at UCI and still was able to have a lot of fun. You can bum rides off of friends who do have cars or take the bus (OC public transport SUCKS but if you go with a group of friends, then you’ll have a lot of fun). A bike is really helpful but you just learn how to be resourceful and take advantage of what’s available. I’ve taken the bus to Corona del Mar, Irvine Spectrum, Fashion Island and walked to a ****-ton of places. But it was still really fun and I’m glad I didn’t spend all of that money. Of course, having a car would be so much more convenient but it’s okay!

Well I have one and it’s nice because you are then able to go to target whenever you want, to go out to eat, and go to the beach whenever :)

I didn’t have a car my first year, but I was still able to have fun with my friends/hallmates. If you do have the opportunity to have a car, then I recommend you to bring it. I brought my car up and was able to eat out at all my favorite places (85 Bakery, Boiling Point, Class 302, CHIPOTLE) whenever I wanted.
