Is it worth buying a laptop now?

I doubt it's going down fast, but I checked out the website a day after Dell bought it out, and not only did they change the website to all HTML like Dell's website, but all the prices went down by about $150, which I think, hints at something.

This might not have anything to do with the fact that HTML is more universal and better read by most browsers? Nah.

Oh, and the drop in price might be completely unrelated. CORRELATION IS NOT CAUSATION.

O and did you people notice most of the Alienwares use AMD? Theres a reason for that...

Oh joy, an AMD fanboy. Just what CC needs. Look, I've run AMDs in at least two systems I've built. They're fine processors. But the Intels have certain strengths that the AMDs don't.

I just tried to custmize the cheapest laptop on the Alienware site and when equipped with what most Dell's come with, it costs $1733.00. so really, all you're paying for is the brand name.

Welcome to life.

the Turion X2 is comming out this summer in a month or two, and whether or not you like AMD processors the competition will likely drive intel prices down to compensate. The Turion's are scheduled to come out in may or June, so there should be some systems out by august before school.

I REALLY don't think the person who started this thread is reading it anymore....

ScAR,

So what? Lots of threads carry on this way.

I just found out that the new AMD's have deeper pipelining than the iNtels. I have no idea how this is better or worse, but from what I've read, it's better to have Deeper piplining, but it increases heat production. And also I would suggest you got to a computer forums like <a href="http://www.short-media.com%5B/url%5D">http://www.short-media.com</a> which is where I got most of my help from when I was building my first PC. Everyon's really nice for the most part and usually respond quickly.

I doubt the submitter is the only one looking to buy a laptop this summer, I know I will be...

true .

lol i am reading it. This sorta went off tangent tho. I think i will probably buy it in four months, but sorta considering other brands too. I thought hp was pretty cool but im starting to check out some vaios and toshibas.

thats all cool, but I don't suggest a Toshiba. There's really nothing wrong with it, but if you ever want to resell it, you're gonna have a hell of a time, and since they cost about the same, why not go with a good brand name like sony?

So did you decide between AMD and iNtel yet?
BTW, if you're wondering, dual core won't give too much of a performance boost if you're just going to be using Word and IE and stuff. It really helps when you're multitasking.

Dell just bought out Alienware so they're going downhill now."

Oh. thanks for the update...

was that carcasm, or do u mean that?

Do you have any evidence to back this up? I had no problem selling my first Toshiba.

what made you choose Japan?

I got offered a job with the JET Programme, and it was the best thing I could think of doing after graduation. It's that simple.

what is the Jet Programme?
Do you teach in a school?
because you seem to be like an engineer....i cant simply see you as a english teacher

okay, I understand that I'm a bit low on the computer IQ scale present in this thread, but I want a basic laptop. One which is smallish, has good battery life, and will be able to maintain my large collection of pirated music. My college for next year gets lower rates on Apple and Dell, although I've been eyeing those oh so cute Vaios (yes, I'm a girl).

Any suggestions about where to start looking?

p.s. I know someone who did the JET Programme. She got all kinds of AMAZING travel opportunities.

BestMiler,

Read up me hearty!

Eckie,

"Large collection" is relative. But, that would suggest you want a large HD. Consider the Dell 700m if small is key. Lenovo/IBMs are also good options if you want small and light. DO NOT buy a computer based on its "cuteness." My angry spirit will leave my body and smack you.

so when are you coming back to the states and stay with us

you seem so angry. it makes me chuckle.
