YEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!
im going to throw a party.....how long after are you coming back?

If I don't head off to China next year, I'm back in the US for good.

good cause im going to come visit you and you can become my teacher :)

What's wrong with getting an Apple? It has a very awesome OS, plus being very virus-proof (how often do you hear about viruses crashing OSX?)

And the new (apple-approved) ability to dual-boot Windows AND OSX makes it pretty attractive.

"maintain my large collection of pirated music."
I wouldn't admit that on online forums.

I would wait til Vista comes out.. I mean if you are getting a new one anyways, why get XP? (if you are going PC though.. if are going for linux, mac, etc... then go for it..) I mean we all know how fast technology goes, but unless you are an avid gamer (who must have computer that meets high standards) even after 1-4 years, you can live with your computer. My computer's around 2 years old, and it works fine... Although I might be possibly getting a new Tablet PC (my dad wanted to buy me one for my graduation present... I do alot of graphic work.. so)

chriswizard: uhh, mac is not really virus proof. Its just that less people use mac therefore virus writer see more gains in infecting window. However, once mac gets more people to buy their systems, you will see more virus on mac computer. Why do I think more people are going to buy mac? Mac can run windows now with bootcamp.

virus on mac computer; 2 months ago: http://www.sophos.com/pressoffice/news/articles/2006/02/macosxleap.html

True, but that's a simple worm/malware. I believe that due to the permissions involved in the Mac OS, it'd be pretty difficult for a truly dangerous virus to do damage.

'course, I could be horrifically wrong; in a few years there may be more viruses for Mac. But as of now, it's a pretty nice alternative.

Yeah, bootcamp. And I hear there's stuff in the works for running both Windows and OSX simultaneously.

I read somewhere that Vista got delayed again, so it might be a while before we get to see it.

forget VISTA, when u have OSX

Vista, if uve used the Beta, is a ripoff of OSX. Forget about intel and all, get a mac.

I say, Mac>>>> AMD >>>>>>>.....>>>>>>Intel> Calculator

ok, so now i have a few questions.
1. opinions on the dell xps m140?
2. opinions on the sony vaio FJ series?
3. opinions on 14" vs 15" laptop screens?
4. what you would consider the best overall 14" and 15" laptop?

How often do you talk to people with OSX?

I wasn't aware that macs used AMD. Do they? Could you post a link or something?

no

Sony Vaio FJ VGN-270P/B

15'' (14'' doesn't really save battery life that much)

15''

UCLAri, I think you have inspired a generation of CC posters to apply to the JET program

ScAR - thanks for the response, but i was looking more for an answer as to whether or not that dell or that vaio line is reliable/a good choice..and with question #4, i wanted to know which of the 14" laptops or which of the 15" laptops is a good computer overall/decent price/etc.

I don't know much about those specific models, but I've always liked CNET's reviews of laptops and such, so you can search and see if they've reviewed those models.

That'll be hard, considering that Apple is moving over to Intel. But hey, you can always hope for an Apple running an AMD...

Just don't end up in Saga Prefecture, and you'll be fine.
