So say you did well with your major for the first two years of college and you have over 60 credits most of which are related to your subject of study. However, during your Jr year you take a couple of mandatory courses that are hard and you wind up failing them. This could be in your Sr year as well. So is it worth it to change your major? Also are there any colleges that prohibit you from changing your major at a certain point?

Well, if you’re in this situation, it doesn’t really matter if there are colleges that prohibit it, rather than if your college prohibits it.

I doubt that, of your first 60 credits freshman and sophomore year, “most” of them were in your major. That’s, what, at least eleven in-major classes? You probably had to take some general ed, right? Electives not related to your major?

Anyway, it would (usually) be pretty easy to change your major at the beginning of your junior year, but in the middle of it, or at the beginning of your senior year might not be possible. I’d definitely talk to your advisor.

You can also ask about your college’s retake policy. Now that you know what you’re in for, gear up and pass those classes. If you have taken over 30 credits in your major already, it’s be a shame to waste them.
