Is it worth it for me to apply here at this time?

Hey everybody, I was just thinking about adding Penn State to my list of colleges. We are now past the priority deadline, so I was wondering if I would have a possibility of getting in here. I don't want to waste my time if there's little chance, I have so many other apps to do :)

Here are my stats:

I live in California by the way.

Unweighted GPA-3.43

Weighted GPA- around 3.5

SAT single sitting- 620 reading, 800 math, 730 writing-2150 Composite

SAT superscore- 670 reading, 800 math, 730 writing-2200 Composite

ACT- 34 math, 35 writing, 35 reading, 35 science- 35 Composite

Class Rank-School doesnt rank but if I had to guess I would say definitely top quarter, possibly top 10 percent

ECs are pretty weak, During baseball season in my town I umpire the little league baseball games (past 2 years), also was a counselor in training for a summer camp for a year

Jobs- work over the summer at a screen-printing business, past 3 years

Thanks to anyone who answers this.

Also, does anyone know if letters of rec are required? I know it's probably on their site, but I haven't found the answer yet.

Unless you plan on applying for the Honors College, no letters are necessary.

past the priority deadline reduces your chances quite a bit

To which school are you thinking of applying? Engineering, Smeal, Eberly are probably unlikely, but you may be OK with one of the others.

I believe the priority deadline is more important for the Honors College than for regular admission.

Your numbers are high enough that you should have a great shot. Large public colleges are typically more numbers driven in admission than extra curricular driven. I’d try to get an app submitted by the end of December.

However, the bigger question is whether Penn State is worth the additional cost vs. public colleges in California.

Also, Penn State is one of the few public colleges in the US that treats in state vs. out of state applicants equally in admission. Pa. residents are not given preference in admissions.
