Is it worth it for me to apply to Reed?

I’m most likely going to major in STEM but I’m also interested in exploring a wide range of subjects. I am a “top” student as a National AP Scholar, National Merit semifinalist, near perfect test scores, 4.0 GPA, etc.

I’m already applying to many other schools, but I’m drawn to Reed’s atmosphere and their grading policy. Is Reed a “step down” from top colleges? How are their CS and math departments? I don’t know what my parents would think of Reed, and I haven’t told them that I’ve been considering Reed. (also typing this relatively quickly so sorry for mistakes/or if hard to follow)

You could thrive here, but the CS program is very new and couldn’t give you as much as other schools. The math department, on the other hand, is very good and challenging. Biology and physics are our strongest suit.

Academically, Reed is not a step down. It is a small school so it is limited in what it can do, but I don’t think you would find yourself unchallenged. Reputation-wise, we’re solid in Portland for sure, and Portland is a great place to be. In academia, too, we are well-respected, if you are looking into getting a PhD.

@International95 That’s pretty much what I had in mind, but I wanted to hear another opinion from someone who has experience with Reed. I will probably end up applying as there is no application fee.

Thanks for your response!
