Is it worth it over a state school?

Northeastern is charging me $63,000 per year, but UMASS Amherst is only $27,000. However, since NU is so good finding internships and setting up jobs after graduation, I’m leaning towards Northeastern. Is it really worth the extra cash? Am I more likely to get a higher paying, overall better job with NU?

Also, BU is offering me the same fees as NU. Any thoughts on BU with jobs?

No financial aid from any of the schools?

Northeastern over BU but unless your parents are rich it would be hard to justify the extra cost if you are full pay.

UMASS Amherst is a great school. My sister and BIL are graduates. My recently graduated from Northeastern and had a great experience with it.

However, I would only recommend Northeastern over UMASS if you would not be taking on debt.

Best of luck to you.

You should ask yourself how strong your family’s financial situation is. Both schools are great as long as you take advantage of what they have to offer. UMass has been improving a lot lately and NEU has been on the up and up as well. Take some time to think over which school suits your interests best.

We’re in a similar situation with our D. Both parents are BU alums so having a Husky feels a little off;-) She loved Northeastern but is not getting any $ from NU or BU. Was accepted with good merit to UVM and RIT also UMass Amherst in state. Is it worth it? She’s a science geek and felt research/co-op opportunities would be good at NU but wants to go to grad school later and was wondering if she should save her money?

@bonnie1720 It really comes down to if it will have a significant financial impact. If you can afford full pay AND grad school and your daughter likes NEU significantly more than the other available options, go for it. But most likely it would seem like UMass Amherst would be the best bet otherwise.

Unless the $ doesn’t matter to your parents, neither NU or BU are worth $30k plus PER year over umass amherst…no way
