Greetings everybody, I am a new member of this Cafe.
I was curretly in 10th grade, but I want to go to a better pre-school. But it's too late when I know thoses great schools, it have already passed the dealine. So I am applying as a late applicatant to The Hockaday School and get rejected, because my ISEE and TOEFL wasn't that good.
I am an exchange student from China, however, most of the chinese always decided to apply for their current grade. I don't quite know, is it worth it to applying 11th grade again after I have already finish my 11th grade?
PS, my dream school is MILTON>_<
Thanks!!!

Doing 11th & 12th grade at a good prep school (not pre-school! :D) would be a great experience! But getting accepted into the 11th grade class is difficult . . . some schools have a few spots; others have none.

So get your test scores up, and then apply to a wide range of schools - in different parts of the country. (Hockaday and Milton are a good start!) The more schools you apply to, the better your chances . . . so long as you don’t limit yourself to New England.

consider applying as a Repeat Sophomore:

Being admitted as a Chinese student into the 11th grade will be difficult. Most schools have some limits on how many students they will take from various countries and the China slots fill up early (a school would much rather have you for four years). If you are going to attempt this, begin the process early and apply to many schools.

I’m having the same dilemma. I’m a soon to be sophomore so I will be applying for the 11th grade next year. I don’t want to screw up and fail my 11th grade year and have it effect my college chances/applications. Any advice?

My cousin from China goes to Milton now

Her friend applied for a grade lower and got in. It raises your chances so go for it!

I’m also international and went through the same decision.
Im from Australia so I guess a different region from you, but still international!
I was accepted in 11th grade to start this coming school year and I am soo excited!
I also had to half repeat due to the differences in the southern and northern hemisphere school dates but it will be totally worth it!
I would strongly suggest applying because it will be amazing!
