IS it worth it to change from pending RD to ED2?

Does this happen often? Who does it - recruited athletes? Why do it (I'm assuming you in fact have concluded that, ok, Hamilton IS IT for you, or at least ok enough to exclude all others)? I know that, by the time ED1 and ED2 are done, about half the class will have ben filled (with close to 100% yield, ie most if not all of the 250 cumulative acceptances will matriculate), so that the remaining about 250 slots will be fought over by at least (using last year's numbers) 4,500 applicants - that's right, 4,500 for 250 slots. So that could be an excellent reason to switch, but does anyone have any experience with doing so, or know anything about it to assist consideration of such a move?

Take a look at last year’s statistics which indicate a higher acceptance rate for ED2 versus RD (ED1 had the highest acceptance rate).

Does this mean that it will be easier to be admitted in ED2? Not necessarily. But probably there is an edge. Ultimately, you should consider doing so if you truly view Hamilton as your first choice.

My daughter change from RD to ED2. Hamilton and another school were her top choices and she didn’t get in EA at the other school, so made the switch. She was accepted ED2 to Hamilton and attended.

Do not switch to ED2 unless the student is absolutely sure Hamilton is his/her first choice.

Does anyone have any experience with the Hamilton admission interview not in person but via the internet, available at the admissions website? How does this work, and is it worthwhile? They’re only doing on campus interview thru January, and we may not make it up there by then. And, they’re only M-F, although we could be there on a Saturday. So it seems the only thing left is the ‘on-line’ interview, but does anyone know how this works? Is there an interlocutor? Are the questions written? Any assistance would be appreciated.

Attydad,

I am not sure how the online interview works but if your D is serious about attending Hamilton, I would give her every opportunity to show admissions that she is a good fit for the college. So I would recommend that my D do the interview-especially if changing to ED2.

Yes - I agree to make the interview a priority if you switch to ED2. Even for RD’s, having the interview is important. A Hamilton coach even asked S2 (who was definitely going to apply RD - perhaps ED2 but he got into his ED1 school so he did not apply) which admissions person had interviewed him. S2’s on campus interview was great - he felt very comfortable. It is worth doing. Best of luck.

You make an account on a website to upload a video. The questions are laid out for you and you just record your answers. I was wondering if this holds the same weight as an in-person interview?

I think it would hold the same weight- just one more opportunity to show your interest in Hamilton and why you think it is a good fit for you. However, if you lived close to the college and were using the video interview, I suspect the adcom would wonder why you could not come in person. That being said I think it is very important to visit Hamilton before an ED2 application.

Hamilton interviews are “highly recommended” by the Admissions office. They basically want to know 3 things about your kid: Why Hamilton is such a good fit? What are you really interested to do in college and how do you feel about it? What is your passion in life and how your EC supported it? Good luck.
