Is it worth it to dorm at CPP as a transfer from Pasadena?

I just applied for housing but chances are I’m not going to get a spot because I applied super late. I know CPP is famously a commuter school. I live in Pasadena which is 25-35 mins on the freeway. Would it be worth it to dorm or should I just commute? I would like to make some friends while at CPP.

Honestly, I would commute if I were you just to get a feel for the 210 commute. I’m out in Altadena and I’ll also be commuting out to CPP for the Fall 2021. I thought about applying for housing this coming Fall 2021 and also Spring 2022, but decided to just apply for housing Spring 2022 since my Fall 2021 housing application would be late.

Just commute out there for Fall 2021 and apply for housing Spring 2022 to see if the commute is something you can manage. Also it’ll give you more time to plan out and transition from your current home to the dorms. This is what I’ll be doing for my first semester at CPP. I hope that this helped you out a bit brotha!!! Cheers and I hope to see you there!!

I think if you’re OK with commuting, you should commute but remember that the 210 and 71 can get really bogged down when there are accidents. Not good if you have a test scheduled first thing in the morning. Unless you can predict movement of accidents and detours, through surface streets, it’ll be rough.

Hi! I’d say commute for Fall and see how it feels. If you have morning/early afternoon classes you’d be traveling against traffic so if should be fine. I would also recommend leaving later, possibly having dinner on campus before heading home that should also help with traffic.

In terms of making friends, I’ve read that the best way to do so is through joining clubs and looking out for on campus activities. The more time you spend on campus the greater the chance of meeting people.

My daughter’s an incoming freshman who will be commuting as well. We live 10 miles north of campus so it’s a no brainer for her to commute. She’s looking into joining the band, clubs, as well getting a job on campus. She’s looking forward to meeting new people at CPP.

Good luck!
