Is it worth it to double major or minor in something?

Does it help me career wise?

I’m attending upenn college, and i know i want to major in economics. I want to go into finance or marketing. idk which

my ra says minoring in something doesnt help in the long run, and she says well rounded is better. she suggests against minoring in actuarial math and consumer psychology becaues theyre too related to my econ major.

would it be smart to double major in economics and communications? do employers like double majors?

don’t get me wrong. i’m not obsessed with just getting a job. i actually enjoy studying economics and know i’ll enjoy actuarial math, consumer psychology, or communications if i do choose to minor or double major in those. math is my strongest subject too. i also do want a life. i dont want a killer courseload. but economics is a pretty light major with not too many required classes. plus, i have ap credit for both intro to econ classes.

i think it depends on the minor and how it plays into your career goals

personally i think my minor was an asset in my job search; since i'm a bioengineer, but did an engineering entrepreneurship minor, it gave me coursework and knowledge useful to my pursuit of consulting

A minor won't mean anything on your transcript or resume - I always say take the classes you want to take, and if they happen to fit into a minor, so be it.

A double major, on the other hand, can mean something, and employers or grad schools will notice it. Again though, it's only worth it if you really want to be studying that stuff. You'll find the same jobs regardless of a double major.
