I'm thinking about becoming a game designer after I graduate from college and I know that UCI has a Game Design major, but I've heard from lot of people that it would be a wiser choice to major in Computer Science than game design since you would have a wider variety of skills to offer a game company. The college I'm attending right now, UCR has Computer Science as a major, but I'm so behind in math that I don't know if I'll be able to complete it in four years so I was thinking about transferring to UCI, but I want to ask anyone who is enrolled in UCI if their Game Design Major is worth transferring to, thank you.

UCI will likely allow you more opportunities than UCR.

CS is a better major than game design in general, more options. Game employers won’t look down up a CS major FYI. Just involve yourself in the community, join VGDC or something similar to UCI.

While attending UCI, the video game development club was creating more and more buzz. They have great relations with Blizzard’s headquarters in Irvine. Check to see what the game development scene is like at UCR before you decide to jump to UCI. CS is definitely more alluring for game design companies – especially if you concentrate on game design. Look at the job postings out there to see what companies are looking for in an prospective employee.

I heard that UCI’s game design program isn’t really “game design”. Its more game programming? I can be mistaken! I would like to major in game design at UCI too(Where I can actually design and make the game rather than just program it.)
