Is it worth it?

Is self studying APs your senior year even worth it?

I'm a junior in IB, and I'm taking 1 (SL) of the 6 exams this year, and 5 next year.
Out of those 5 IB classes next year, 2 of the teachers recommend I take the AP exam with it. And I will also be taking AP macro next year because it's required in our state anyways.
I was also going to self study AP Eng and/or AP Psych and/or AP Stat. (just personal achievement? It looks "good"?)

So. My question is.
I am not theoretically enrolled in the any of the 4 AP classes I will take next year since I'm an IB diplomma.
The tests are given in May.
After College apps are due.

Is the stress worth it?

Is there even a place on the transcript to write it out? And if so, what do colleges make of it? Is it impressive?

I am definitely taking 2 AP exams next year for sure. 5 IB exams for sure.
But the last 2 AP exams are not set in stone yet.

The thing is, I really don't mind studying for them. I will have the time in the summer. And I feel like I could do decent on the exams, if I chose to do them. I like learning too (I know it's odd) and studying is not a big deal for me... only if I know I HAVE to.
But if it won't make a difference, I'd rather just leave it alone.

So any opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

You can’t write it on the transcripts… It’s not impressive, seeing as the college’s wont see it. The only benefit to self studying senior year is personal enrichment + possible credit placement.

Oh really? Eh. That’s a bummer /:

Can you still list it on the “additional space” where it asks about the courses?
Or can you put AP/IB?
For example.
Bio AP/IB?

I’m not an authority on this; maybe you can write it on the transcripts, I cannot know for sure, but I will say with 99% certainty that you can’t. I would look for a second opinion though, but in general accomplishments after apps are in are not considered unless they are REALLY something [and even then, rarely].

Okay will do.
So would you recommend it then?

Honestly, I wouldn’t suggest doing it in most cases, but you should definitely get a second opinion. However, I would recommend it if: you really like learning new things (in which case self studying would be enriching), you would like to test out of the corresponding intro course in college if possible (in which case, of course, you could get credit for the test), and if the $87 fee, which I consider exorbitant for just taking a test, isn’t a big deal for you.

By the way, I’m not 100% certain that it can’t go on your app, but I doubt it can, because it’s just a hypothetical thing at the time of application.
