is it worth it?

I want to buy a new laptop for college since I my laptop is already five years old, battery is almost dead. I was thinking about buying the Thinkpad x230t. My dad ask me to give him a reason first. Its summer now, I mostly play video games and didn't do much, which make him think buying a new laptop means play more games. Right now, I still not sure about what I'm going to major in, but I know it will be business, computer science or other computer related majors. So is it worth it to buy the laptop? I heard people has a thinkpad convertable and can use it for many years. is it true?

Do you need a new laptop? Is your old laptop so slow that it is unusable? Is it not fast enough to run programs required for your major? You can always buy a new battery.

I guess I don’t really need, but is it true that most people use their computer to take notes in class? My laptop boots up is really slow even I did a clean install. Replacing the battery is really hard…since they already discontinue the product…

Buy a new one. If it’s bad now, it’s only going to get worse. If you’re in school 4 years, that’s a 9 year old laptop by the time you graduate…likely not going to cut it.

Tell your dad you want to major in CS or a similar field. That doesn’t commit you to that field when you start school.

If your computer runs slowly and It’s that hard to find a battery, you could always explain that to your dad if you don’t want to “lie”.
