I'm from Canada and I'm the oldest of 5 kids, is it worth going to Lehigh university? I dont't know what to major in yet...

LovePriceton -

I’m not sure I can fully answer your question as I am not a current Lehigh student but rather a hopeful one, but I will try nonetheless.

Lehigh is ranked as one of the top 40 universities in the US, which in itself speaks quite a bit about the quality of education one receives there. However, it’s so much more than just a number! From what I’ve seen through my tour and talking to various current and former Lehgh students, the school is a community before anything. There you will not just learn what is necessary to graduate but also what is necessary for what’s beyond graduation.

If you are referring to money, I emplore you to not focus too much on the matter as Lehigh has a good deal of financial aid money available and they, like most other colleges, will work with you - they are not in the business of turning people away!

Going undecided isn’t the end of the world as the various colleges that make up Lehigh University are quite easy to transfer between (so I’ve heard, at least!).

So, I would say YES, it is worth applying to - assuming you don’t love Princeton too much!

Best regards,
- Mike

Haha, yes thank you so much! I do LOVE Princeton but chances are I’ll never make it in. You’re answer was amazing thank you!

lovePrinceton -

Not a problem! I too loved Priceton when I was a in middle school and throughout freshman year but I similarly found that I’ll never get in! Lehigh is every bit as good of a university, though, just without the 6% acceptance rate that makes me cringe.

Best regards,
- Mike

:D yeah I know, I heard its like Princeton, you say this is true, how so? Just wondering…

lovePrinceton -

I don’t necessarily mean its like Princeton in a sense that it looks or feels like Princeton, but that there is nothing Princeton has to offer you that Lehigh doesn’t (even though the Lehigh and Princeton campus have similar features!).

I love both schools very much - they have excellent reputations and all that comes with that, they’re both small/medium sized, are very personable, provide a great sense of community, etc.

However, when it comes down to it the only difference is that being accepted to Princeton means you had something that the admissions people were looking for at the time - perhaps you are a nationally ranked oboe player or own a very successful business - there is no guarantee (not even for a 2400 / 4.0 student) of acceptance.

I’m not sure if I am making any sense, so I’ll quickly wrap this up. A degree from Lehigh can and will get you anywhere in the world that you want to go, assuming you continue to work at it, just like a degree from Princeton will. So, in the most macro perspective i can come up with, neither school is better than the other (unless you live by the unfounded rankings of the USNews.com people) but rather are similar institutions that you will need to get a feel of in order to decide between.

I hope this helped somewhat,
- Mike

Yes it definitely did, thank you!!

I’d appreciate hearing other people’s opinions…
