Is it worth it?

I'm an SCEA applicant and just recently got a state-wide math award and a city-wide debate award. Would it make any difference to email my regional admissions officer and tell him this in a short email? I've talked to him before so he knows me (and told me I was free to email him any time I wished) but would it seem like I'm overbearing, especially since I've emailed him before once?

Thanks

It’s OK to update with relevant information, do it!

The expectation is that you applied SCEA because your application was finished by November. To send more information in IMO looks very unprofessional. When the admissions officer said you can email him/her whenever you want that is a) a formality and b) likely for questions regarding the application process, not for sending him/her details.

Not exactly. Both Nov for SCEA and Jan for RD are deadlines for getting your application packet submitted. If substantial new achievements occur after the deadline, updates are fine. Adcoms want to see your entire record for evaluation. Sending a brief email with new awards would not be considered ‘unprofessional’.

Jazzed - that is not accurate. OP - if you have additional information/awards that you did not have when you submitted your application, it is perfectly acceptable to let your adcom know about it. I think that both awards are worthy of an update. Good luck!

Definitely send it in. It won’t look “unprofessional” in the least–that’s absurd.

Any new award or significant accomplishment that you would have included within that section on the Common Application should be submitted to the Admissions Office of every school that does not yet know it. There is thus nothing wrong at all with updating your application file accordingly.

I would email the adcom. It’s new and relevent information. You have to continue to promote yourself because it’s a tough world out there. And very short as if it would have shown up in the awards section of the common app.

Thnx for the feedback guys. These awards would actually have been put under the extracurricular awards section.

Per their web site, this is a better way to send your updates:

Please do not send application updates directly to your admissions officer. Information will reach your file most quickly for review if it is faxed to our file room at 203.777.6120 or emailed to apply.questions@yale.edu.
