Is it worth it?

Hi, I’m in a tough spot because I don’t know if I should go to Santa Clara. It’s either this school or my instate school which I got a full ride. I have always wanted to go out of state, and I’m interested in business/marketing, and I feel like Santa Clara would be a great school, especially with the location and all. I got my financial aid packet and all together I got about 31,000 (26,500 in grants) but the total cost is still 63,000 a year. I’m also not sure if I’ll get that much in grants every year, although it is renewable. I don’t want to put my parents in a tough position because I think this is a bit of a stretch, and I don’t want to be in debt either. I’m doing my best to do outside scholarships though.

What do you guys think? Any tips would be helpful. Thank you!!

I can completely understand your desire to go OOS, however, if I were your mother, I would be encouraging you to go to your instate school on that full ride and save money for graduate school. A lot of people on here say it really doesn’t matter where you get your undergraduate degree. I know as a parent, I would rather have my child graduate debt free than to saddle himself with massive debt. I hope this helps and good luck!!!

It sounds to me like you answered your own question. If attending the school would be a financial strain on your family or bury you in debt, it really isn’t a viable option.

California will be here, waiting for you when you graduate debt free.

Good luck
