Hi guys! I am aware stanford’s admission process is holistic. However, first and foremost, i still believe you still need the grades and test scores. I’m currently a junior in high highschool and by the end of this year i will have a 3.77 UW Cumulative GPA including only sophomore and junior year (assuming i make all a’s this last semester, which i plan to). My classes would include 6 AP classes and the rest honors. As for my standardized test scores, I know they are not hot, but am working to improve them! Scrolling through the results thread, most kids admitted seem to have a 4.0 or even 3.9 or 3.8. Do you guys think its even worth it for me to apply? Thank you!
*Also, I’m hookless. lol
**Oh and for reference I’m in the top 15% of my school.
@cat0890 Your hard stats not going to make Stanford unless you win some prestigious national competition, your parents donates several million dollars or a great athlete etc. But you know what? If you want to apply (but don’t expect anything), go ahead and apply because my kid didn’t think he would get in but he got into Stanford REA, so I would be a hypocrite to tell others that their hard stats do not measure up to Stanford level.
When I was young, I myself applied to Harvard with 3.0 gpa, and I really did think I had a chance to get in because I thought I was a smart guy. Hey but I did get into Cornell so there is something to be said for having confidence in yourself. I also got into a top 5 law school with 3.0 gpa from Cornell, so why not? Go for it. Who knows, the admission reviewer reading your application might have not done so well in high school himself so might have a great deal of sympathy for you. Anything can happen. But think of some unique way of applying.
@websenation Hahaha thank you for the personal story and making me laugh. I will definitely keep your advice in mind and congratulations to yourself as well as your kid!!
Don’t listen to these guys. I know people who got into MIT, no “hooks” lower stats than yours. They didn’t have particularly astounding ECs. Appli apply spot, not gonna say that you have an equal chance as someone with a 4.0, but you’re not out of the race
@sweatearl, @potterfan, @top10squad, and @googledrone thanks all for the advice!! I guess all I can do now is focus on my grades, standardized test score, and write a great essay.
